A Free/Open Source Software (FOSS) advocate and evangelist since 2006, Larry has put aside three-decade journalistic career to enter the tech field. As a long-time computer enthusiast, he completed training as a Macintosh technician in 1999 and used his skills sparingly as he worked as a newspaper editor. He made the conversion to Linux and other FOSS programs during his campaign as the Green Party candidate for Insurance Commissioner in 2006.
Larry attended Cabrillo College's UNIX/Linux System Administration Skills Certificate program in 2007 and 2008, during which he organized the Cabrillo College GNU/Linux Users Group. He also initiated Seahawk GNU/Linux, a software development project, on campus. He is currently in charge of the Lindependence project and serves as the Regional Ambassador for the U.S. West Coast for the Fedora Project, a Linux operating system.
Larry specializes in reviewing small business/home office needs and providing FOSS solutions to small business/home office clients, saving clients both time and money by using free alternatives to proprietary software.
